Daniel James – Founder & Managing Director

Daniel’s journey in the flooring industry began in 1984, learning the craft from the ground up during his commercial carpet apprenticeship. Specialising in high-rise commercial broadloom installations, he brought over a decade of hands-on expertise into the business when he purchased Newline Carpets along with his wife Carolyn in 1997. What started as a modest operation out of a single warehouse quickly transformed under his leadership, earning a reputation for exceptional service and a loyal local clientele with a passion for high-end wool carpets.

Driven by a commitment to quality and growth, Daniel expanded the business into the dedicated flagship showroom where Newline operates today. Ever attentive to shifting design trends, he has continually evolved the business—working alongside a great team to pivot Newline into new markets while staying true to its roots. Today, the showroom offers everything from classic luxury wools to modern solution-dyed nylons, high-performance synthetics, and a vast array of hard and resilient flooring, all backed by Daniel’s lifelong dedication to quality and service.

Ben Marsden – Director & Commercial Project Manager

Ben began his carpentry apprenticeship in 2012, spending his early career building a strong technical foundation across medium-density commercial projects—where he first crossed paths with Daniel. After expanding his expertise overseas and honing his craft in high-end luxury renovations, he developed a sharp eye for detail and a genuine passion for small business leadership.

Bringing his extensive background in both commercial construction and bespoke residential projects back to Newline in 2024, Ben officially joined Daniel as a business partner in 2025. Today, he manages Newline’s commercial projects while working alongside Daniel and the dedicated team to steer the business into its next chapter—driving innovation in project delivery, expanding their commercial footprint, and ensuring Newline remains ahead of industry trends for years to come.

Stephanie Turnbull – Showroom Manager

Stephanie joined Newline Carpets in 2018 in a part-time role, which quickly progressed into a full-time position in 2020 and, shortly after, her current role as Showroom Manager.

Originally from a small rural community in New Zealand’s South Island, Stephanie grew up with a family background in dairy and sheep farming. This connection to rural life has given her a genuine appreciation and passion for New Zealand wool carpets and the natural qualities they bring to Australian homes.

Whether you’re building a new home or renovating, Stephanie provides straightforward, honest advice to homeowners, builders and designers alike. With experience across carpet, vinyl, hybrid and timber flooring, she takes the time to understand each project and help clients find the right flooring solution for their space.

Her approachable nature and practical knowledge make the flooring selection process enjoyable, simple and stress-free.

Helen – Showroom Assistant

Helen is often the first friendly face you’ll meet when you visit the Newline Carpets showroom. With a background in bathrooms and four years of experience with Newline Carpets, she brings a great eye for colour and a natural ability to help customers make confident flooring choices.

Helen takes the time to understand each customer’s style, needs and budget, helping them find flooring that not only looks beautiful but works perfectly within their home and lifestyle.
